Biography

Dr Jodie Benton is both Director and Principal Consulting Archaeologist at OzArk Environment and Heritage, based in Dubbo. She is an alumna of the University of Sydney and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a first-class honours degree in Archaeology. After a decade of excavating archaeological sites in Jordan, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as working as an Associate Lecturer at Sydney University, Dr Benton completed her PhD on the Late Bronze Age burial practices of the Oman Peninsula at the University in 2016. Since arriving in Dubbo 22 years ago, Dr Benton's business - OzArk - has taken her to interesting and diverse parts of NSW, surveying and assessing both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage sites as part of the environmental impact process. She now heads a team of sixteen and is passionate about working with developers and traditional owners to ensure cultural heritage is managed appropriately and sensitively.
