Synopsis
This panel shares diverse perspectives from First Nations people across Australia, offering insights into cultural identity, protocols, and community engagement. Participants will gain practical strategies and foundational knowledge to build culturally responsive relationships with First Nations children, families, and communities, while deepening respect for cultural diversity and connection.

Biography
Brett Wilcock is a proud identified First Nations descendant of the Arabana People of Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, South Australia with over 25 years of experience in child protection, primarily in Residential Care. He holds a degree in Psychological Science and has a strong interest in brain development and childhood trauma. Brett is a TCI and Three Pillars trainer, a CARE Educator since 2012, and was appointed a CARE Consultant in 2024.

Barry McGrady a Proud Gomeroi Man originally from Moree, Toomelah, NSW has been working in the out-of-home care sector for over 7 years, predominately in the foster care, Residential and early interventions, outreach, community and clinical programs. Barry has strong cultural connections and ties to many Aboriginal communities and has connected many youths back to family and to their community and Country since being in the sector. Barry has been working for Allambi Care for 7 years and is currently responsible for oversight of the cultural mentoring program, Reconciliation Action Plan for Allambi, Aboriginal decision making for placement principles, cultural education to non-indigenous staff, cultural consultation with Clinical professionals at Allambi and Cultural support for youth, families and staff on how to engage in a culturally safe way. Barry is passionate about community, human rights, Justice, cultural safety, connection to culture, family collaboration, program creating, and traditional practices, by using this approach can create understanding of the past connecting to the present to heal the future for our kids, families, community and wide community.

Cassie Benjamin is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman with Meriam (Eastern) and Maluilgal (Near Western) heritage. She has worked in flexible learning within the education sector for over 24 years. She holds a Diploma in education (ATSI) and has worked in her community with an Indigenous focus for educational success with her peoples. She has been a TCI/ TCIS trainer for 4 yrs.
