Plenary Panel | In a System That Fails Them, Parents Turn to Other Parents Who Understand
Thursday, June 12, 2025 |
9:30 AM - 10:10 AM |
Plaza Terrace |
Synopsis
This presentation highlights the family inclusion movement in Australia, where parents with lived experience of child protection systems support one another through peer-led initiatives. These efforts aim to strengthen family relationships, influence service delivery, and drive systemic reform.
Panellists will discuss the evolution of this movement—its early foundations, current initiatives such as parent peer workers and advisory groups, and future directions. The session emphasizes that meaningful, parent-led support is both effective and transformative, offering a powerful alternative to traditional service models.
