Synopsis

The objectives of this panel are to accentuate the importance of long-term relationships in achieving outcomes, via the voice of a young adult with lived experience in residential care. Additionally, the panel will discuss some of the primary factors that drive staff attrition within the residential care environment and Safe Places' approaches to mitigate those factors and ‘hold’ staff.

Biography

Amanda Dunn is the Chief of Operations at Safe Places for Children. In this role, Amanda leads a national team in the service delivery of therapeutic residential care of children and young people. Amanda has 25 years’ experience in working with children, youth and families in both the not-for-profit and government contexts, including roles in child protection, education, community services, domestic and family violence, in-home family support, and out of home care. Amanda holds an MBA, Bachelor of Human Services - Child and Family Studies, Bachelor of Education and is a certified CARE educator.

Biography

Kelly Gill is the State Manager at Safe Places for Children, Western Australia. With over 15 years’ experience in the Community Services sector, including 13 years in residential out-of-home care, Kelly has a strong passion for achieving positive outcomes for young people, and a special interest in maintaining safe work environments for Youth Workers. In addition to holding a bachelor's degree in social care and an MBA, Kelly is a certified CARE educator.

Kimberly Jensen is the Lead CARE Educator at Safe Places for Children and certified TCI Instructor. With over a decade of experience in youth and residential out of home care and domestic violence services, Kimberly is deeply passionate about fostering inclusive and therapeutic environments, desiring to be a strong advocate for the voices of marginalized young people.
