Synopsis
This presentation will examine what’s needed for an EBP to be effective with families across cultures and contexts. What does it take, and who needs to be involved to transport a treatment, globally? This presentation attempts to answer these questions and more as we look at how an evidence-based approach moves from science to practice. In addition, participants will learn about some of the adaptations of MST being implemented in Australia, as well as cultural modifications piloted in the region.

Biography
Bernie has been involved with the implementation of MST for over 25 years, in roles that have been both clinical and administrative. In her current position, she serves on the senior leadership team at MST Services, with a special focus on the many treatment types that have been developed on the foundation of this evidence-based family therapy model, and some that are still “in the lab.” Bernie is dedicated to ensuring that families are met where they are, and empowered to access the means to thrive, free of formal supports. This includes helping MST programs address the personal and structural impediments that face marginalized populations. Bernie is from Hawai’i, where she has always had the great privilege to live and work.
