The change in scheduling of codeine in 2018 has required a new approach to supporting consumers with pain management in the community. The spotlight for the role of NSAIDs is heightened as both consumers and pharmacists seek the best treatment outcomes, keeping in mind precautions and contraindications with regard to their use.
This session aims to explore pharmacist’s role in screening for cardiovascular risk factors and exploring new ways to screen consumers to enhance the quality use of NSAIDs. The utility of pains MedsChecks will also be explored.
Learning objectives:
• Discuss potential dosages, interactions, precautions and contraindications when considering the use of NSAIDs in pain management
• Explain the role of cardiovascular risk screening for safe use of NSAIDs in pain management
• Describe a holistic approach to pain management including the role of lifestyle, diet and collaboration with other health care professionals.
