Details
Adolescents who do not receive the mental health support they need can face many challenges such as homelessness. This session will equip pharmacist with the ability to support these young people suffering mental disorders and their families, to a journey of recovery.
Learning Objectives
• Express the prevalence of mental disorders in adolescents
• Distinguish the social and demographic characteristics of mental disorders in adolescents.
• Explain the impact of mental disorders on the young people
• Explain risk factors of mental disorders in young people
• Summarise the perceived need for mental health care amongst adolescents and perceived barriers to seeking and receiving help
• Outline the complexities of care in adolescent mental health
• Identify the main mental health conditions seen in adolescents
• Understanding the funding models of care for adolescent mental health conditions (including regional, geographical, private and public system care)
• Have effective conversations with adolescents suffering mental disorders or their carers and make appropriate referrals
• Understand the biopsychosocial and neurodevelopmental influences on adolescent mental health
