Patients often present to the pharmacy seeking advice on eye conditions. Pharmacists have an important role in providing primary health care to individuals with eye pathologies and recognising the signs and symptoms that require referral to other health professionals. This session aims to explore the pharmacist's role in managing eye complications arising from diabetes and recognises the impact on ophthalmic health outcomes when optometrists and pharmacists collaborate. Learning Objectives • Describe the role diabetes plays in develop ocular conditions • Describe the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of eye complications arising from diabetes • Promote awareness and early detection of eye complications through patient education on signs/symptoms and risk factors • Recognise how collaboration between pharmacists and optometrists can contribute to enhanced diabetic eye management.
