This session will provide an overview of what pharmacists need to know about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The session will cover the pathophysiology of ADHD and how it is diagnosed, as well as treatment options and their place in therapy. Pharmacists will learn how to provide information and support to patients and their families with ADHD in a manner that is non-judgmental and fosters trust and a team approach to management.
Learning objectives
• Describe what ADHD is, how it presents and changes across the lifespan
• Discuss the prevalence, pathogenesis and risk factors involved in ADHD
• Describe how ADHD is diagnosed and monitored and be aware of common comorbidities with ADHD
• Outline available treatment options for ADHD, how they work, differ, outcomes and adverse effects
