The profession is on the cusp of being recognized as prescribers. The profession is advancing our prescribing case nationally in partnership with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. Acknowledging that pharmacists are medication management experts and are already engaged in medicines optimization, pharmacist prescribing is a natural progression to enhance our contribution to the health system.
This session will call pharmacists to arms, exploring and understanding what prescribing can actually look like into the future. Dr Lisa Nissen will build on the lessons learnt via the journeys of other non-medical prescribers such as nurses, podiatrists and optometrists - as well as international models of pharmacist prescribing.
Learning objectives:
• Recognise the current barriers and facilitators to pharmacist prescribing in Australia
• Explain the current landscape of pharmacist prescribing in Australia
