Maintenance of vaccination schedules is an effective way to ensure that individuals and communities are protected from the spread of infectious disease. Vaccination programs work most successfully when a significant proportion of the population have been immunised. For this reason, it is important health professionals remain vigilant and maintain education amongst their peers and their communities. Pharmacists are well positioned in the community to provide ongoing support and education. The introduction of pharmacist-administered vaccinations has led to pharmacists having a vital role in this field, giving them the knowledge and skills to address vaccination at the primary health level. A pharmacy-led vaccination health service empowers pharmacists to identify at-risk individuals, increases vaccination access to all Australians and helps to reduce the burden of disease in the community. The development of a successful vaccination health service is key to achieving Australia’s immunisation strategy. Attend this session to understand the necessary requirements needed to deliver a vaccination health service in their community and confidently interact and engage at-risk patients about individual vaccination options. Learning objectives: • Explain the current vaccination guidelines for pharmacists • Respond to commonly asked questions regarding immunisations • Discuss challenges and facilitators to implementing a vaccination health service • Summarise how a vaccination health service can involve the whole health care team. • Recognise the importance of evaluation and how to sustain a professional service. • Generate an action plan for professional service implementation Competencies addressed: • 2016: 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4, 1.1.5, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 1.3.1, 1.3.4, 1.4.1, 1.5.1, 1.5.2, 1.5.3, 1.5.4, 1.6.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.2.3, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 3.2.1, 3.2.4, 3.2.5, 3.3.1, 3.6.1, 3.6.2, 3.6.3, 4.1.1, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.3.3, 4.3.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3, 4.4.4, 4.4.5, 4.5.2, 4.5.3, 4.7.3, 4.7.5, 5.1.3. • 2010: 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.4, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 1.4.1, 1.5.1, 2.1.3, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 2.5.1, 2.5.2, 2.6.3, 3.1.1, 3.1.3, 3.3.1, 3.3.2, 3.4.1, 3.4.2, 3.4.3, 3.5.1, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3.2, 4.3.3, 6.1.1, 6.1.2, 6.1.3, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.5, 6.3.1, 6.3.2, 6.3.3, 7.1.1.
