Biography
Dr Oliver Wendt is an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Central Florida, where he directs the Research Lab on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in Autism Spectrum Disorders. His research investigates the efficacy of AAC strategies including graphic symbols, mobile technologies, and speech-generating devices for individuals on the autism spectrum that present with little or no functional speech. He teaches graduate courses on assistive technology, autism, severe disabilities and single-subject research methods. His professional preparation is in early intervention for children with developmental disabilities. Dr. Wendt has conducted several systematic reviews and meta-analyses of single-subject experiments and is currently investigating non-regression-based procedures for effect size calculations in single-subject research. Dr Wendt serves as co-chair of the Campbell Disability Coordinating Group and is also a member of the Methods Group. He serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Evidence-based Communication Assessment and Intervention, Evidence-based Practice Briefs, and Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools. He is the 2015 recipient of the Outstanding Research Award by the Autism Society of America, and the 2005 recipient of the Editor Award for the Most Significant Research Article in AAC.
