Biography

Maureen Dobbins, RN, PhD is a professor in the School of Nursing at McMaster University. Her research efforts seek to understand knowledge translation among public health decision makers in Canada. Her program of research has: identified barriers and facilitators to research use; explored the information needs of public health decision makers; and developed, implemented and evaluated a variety of knowledge translation strategies for public health decision makers. Since 2001, she has been the Director of Health Evidence (www.health-evidence.ca), a single source of high quality effectiveness evidence and one component of a comprehensive knowledge translation strategy for public health decision makers worldwide. Since, 2011, Maureen has been the Scientific Director of the National Collaborating Centre Methods and Tools, one of six National Collaborating Centres for Public Health in Canada. The NCCMT provides leadership and expertise in helping public health professionals put research evidence into policy and practice.

Biography

Dr Rebecca Armstrong is the Executive Manager of Knowledge Translation & Impact at the Australian Institute for Family Studies. In this role she is responsible for driving the implementation of a Knowledge Translation Strategy within AIFS and in ensuring AIFS work has maximum impact on the audiences we seek to reach. She works internally to support the development of knowledge translation plans and works with stakeholders to ensure that our work addresses contemporary issues relevant to Australian families. Rebecca is a public health researcher with many years experience in conducting knowledge translation research, assisting research teams to develop knowledge translation strategies and coordinating a teaching program focussed on knowledge translation and evidence-informed public health. Rebecca is the Joint Coordinating Editor of Cochrane Public Health and has expertise in the development and publication of systematic reviews of complex public health interventions. Rebecca is also an Associate Editor for Implementation Science.

Doctor of Philosophy, Masters of Public Health (hons), Bachelor of Medical Science (hons) Dr Martin McNamara (Deputy CEO) brings expertise in leading large and complex programs and in bridging the gap between research and practice. At the Sax Institute he has led high level engagement and consultation with government, clinicians, academics and technical experts and promoted the value and use of information produced through research to these groups. His responsibilities include establishing and sustaining complex partnerships and ensuring that research can be effectively used by policy and practice partners.
